This is my seventh post written for Bee’s Love Is In Da Blog. On Friday our theme was “A Love Song that contains a color” I’m going to write about three songs that are love songs that are about colors in the three different languages of Hindi, English, and Telugu.

I’m writing about the Hindi song “Lal Dupatta” from the Bollywood movie Mujhse Shaadi Karogi. Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (transl. Will You Marry Me?) is a 2004 Indian romantic comedy film directed by David Dhawan and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. The film stars Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra, the second collaboration of Kumar and Chopra after their successful Andaaz (2003). The supporting cast includes Amrish Puri, Kader Khan, Satish Shah and Rajpal Yadav, with several Indian cricket team players in cameo appearances. The soundtrack album contains eight songs, seven original songs and one remix. Arun Bhairav wrote the lyrics for Laal Dupatta. Sajid-Wajid was the composer for Laal Dupatta. The singers of Laal Dupatta were Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan. Farah Khan won the Best Choreography Award  for “Laal Dupatta” at the International Indian Film Academy Awards in 2005. For those of my followers that don’t know Hindi, Lal / Laal is Hindi for red.

I’m writing about the English song “Black and Blue” by Louis Armstrong. The original song “(What Did I Do to Be So) Black and Blue”is a 1929 jazz standard composed by Fats Waller with lyrics by Harry Brooks and Andy Razaf. It was introduced in the Broadway musical Hot Chocolates(1929) by Edith Wilson. The show also included Waller’s hit compositions “Ain’t Misbehavin’” and “Honeysuckle Rose.” Louis Armstrong later performed and recorded the song several times. His rendition of it is distinct from that of Edith Wilson due to his omission of a lot of the context of the song.

I’m writing about the Telugu song “Alanati Ramachandrudu” from Murari. Murari is a 2001 Indian Telugu-language supernatural drama film written, and directed by Krishna Vamsi. The film features Mahesh Babu in the title role with Sonali Bendre, Lakshmi, Sukumari, Kaikala Satyanarayana and Gollapudi Maruthi Rao. Mani Sharma composed the music while Ram Prasad handled the cinematography. Peter Hein debuted as choreographer of action sequences with this film. The film marked the last on screen appearance of veteran Telugu actor Dhulipala Seetarama Sastry. The singers of this beautiful song are Jikki, Sunitha Upadrashta, Sandhya & Chorus. This song talks about weddings and one of the verses is about the groom tying a gold necklace around his wife’s neck.
